The Austere Collection- Fall Winter 2009

“Austere” was my debut collection in 2009, which was inspired by traditional Saville Row tailoring techniques and the relationship of skin with body. It places the attention of the collection on the natural silhouette of a woman’s body without any form of adornments or decoration on the designs. It reveals the barest form of design without any fashion detail applied. The collection expresses the philosophy of stripping clothes to the bare minimum to accentuate instead of distracting the attention away from the wearer. The highlight of Austere is whereby all designs were cut on 1 singular piece of fabric and sewn together with only one seam, with no finishing applied. With the distinctive nature of non-fray fabrics, all edges were cut raw while seam allowance were exaggerated and exposed.

The collection “Austere” won the honour of being placed first in the Young fashion designer contest 2009, hosted by the Textile Fashion Federation of Singapore.
